Looking at a snake on a pole seems like an odd way to be healed, but God specializes in mysterious miracles. The interesting thing about this story is how it hints at a bigger story God is weaving—the story in which the sin of man is forgiven by the sacrifice of one man on a pole, or, as we call it, a cross. As the ailing Israelites looked up with hope at a symbol, we look to the cross of Christ, hoping in the healing for our souls that comes only from Him.
